Little sneak preview of yesterday’s boiler / water heater swap. ✔️ The team killed it once again. These guys always stay late to get it done and put in tremendous effort to make sure everything looks good , performs well and the area is cleaned up as if we were never there. I appreciate the good work fellas 💪 Although we had other options like going with a storage tank , we decided to put in another water heater so that the boiler will not have to run all summer to produce hot water. The home owner also liked the idea of them being independent of each other. If the boiler has a problem you still have hot water and vice versa. That’s peace of mind ! Swapped out a Navien NCB 240/110 this week💧🛠️ We still need to go back , run the intake outside and finish the exhaust but this boiler is up and running to provide efficient heat and endless hot water at this home in acushnet. The Previous installation was so close yet so far from correct. They did clean work , their supples and returns looked good and were plumb level and square. Unfortunately they got a few things wrong that can be a major problem on these boilers. We will dive deeper into that and the corrections we made to this install on the next post and will provide videos and photos as well to further explain. Long story short one of our customers owns a catering business and their pump failed 2 days before thanksgiving. As you can imagine not only are there many people depending on them for their orders but it would also be a major financial set back for them to shut the business down during the holidays. Knocked this one out of the park with a new gas line from the street all the way to the new appliances, replaced an old electric stove with a new gas stove, replaced an old undersized electric water heater with a gas 40 gallon @bradfordwhitewaterheaters power vent, Couple things to point out on how we went above and beyond for this homeowner. 🙌 -added a condensate pump on the power vent water heater which will help this appliance last as long as possible. - We upsized the condensate drain from 3/8 tubing to 3/4 pvc before it exists the home to prevent freezing conditions and give it a more appealing look. painted the whole gas main to prevent corrosion. Their basement shows signs of moisture issues and they are so close to the ocean you could throw a rock at it from their driveway so we decided this is one of the rare occasions where it makes sense to paint the gas piping not only outside but even inside of the house as well. @bradfordwhitewaterheaters for the win. If you know tank water heaters then you know they just got the best brand water heater available. @fwwebbco supplying us with quality parts and materials as always. Sure we could of used cheap gas pipe made in Indonesia so we could make a larger profit , we could of not painted the pipe to save time , we could of installed a garbage water heater from Home Depot to save money , we could of spray painted the pipe instead of hand painting to save time along with many other small details most home owners would never even pick up on…But then we would have to walk away from this home knowing we did not give the customer what they deserved. I’m not a @deltafaucet sales rep… but if I was I would tell you Delta offers one of the best kitchen faucets at a very affordable price. A kitchen sink is one of the most used fixtures in your home. This is one of the areas that I feel is often overlooked even though it has such a big impact on your day to day life. Couple awesome features as shown in this video : Price point - you can get a great delta faucet with all of these features for as little as 150.00$ Magnetite docking - the hand sprayer has a magnet inside of it which holds it firmly to the faucet. No more drooping sprayer. That can be extremely annoying and Take away from your kitchens appearance. Shield spray - this function of the sprayer makes cleaning basically anything in the sink or even cleaning the sink itself an absolute breeze. I literally clean my grille brushes with mine and it works like a charm. Not only that but when blasting food off plates the shield actually does a great job at keeping the mess in the sink and from splattering on the counter. Diamond seal technology - This is essentially the technology used when manufacturing their internal parts. Not only do these faucets last a long time but if they do finally have an issue they are simple to rebuild and as long as the faucet itself is in decent shape you can get much more life out of it with that simple repair. Customer service - second to none … I bought my house with a Delta faucet that was 4 years old. 3 years later my hand sprayer had a minor issue so I called delta. Without question or proof of receipt they sent a brand new hand sprayer to me within a few days. My faucet is almost 7 years old and still looks and performs like new. Upsized Water service and relocation. 💧 Mid job we discovered that only a 1/2” water main was supplying this whole house! We made the recommendation to builder and home owner that this was severely undersized for the amount of fixtures here and they agreed that it would be best to not only upsize it but also relocate it so that it is in a serviceable and easily accessible area. In case of emergency these elderly home owners will now be able to shut their water off quickly and without confusion. Not only is it easy to access but it is also piped in hard copper and will be a trusted part of this plumbing system for many years. this company had a few plumbers come out to rebuild and replace this backflow multiple times in only a short period of time. Unfortunately none of them ever stopped to ask why is it repeatedly failing ? What can we do to not only fix the part but also stop it from continuing to happen? The first thing that came to my attention was the location of the filter. If the filter is after the backflow then the back flow is subject to unnecessary sediment and build up which can definitely lead to problems. To correct this we relocated the filter so that it is before the new backflow preventer. We also added a wye strainer per manufacturer instructions for servicing needs. In addition we added a check valve to help with any potential back pressure they may be dealing with because another complaint was that they were experiencing water hammer issues as well as the relief valve consistently spitting water. the existing hammer arrestor seemed to be fairly new so during this repair we reused it but added a shut off valve before it. This will avoid having to shut down the water to their boilers which are an important component to keeping this facility up and running daily. Our installs are designed to minimize downtime for our commercial customers as that can get costly and disruptive for a business during their work shift. This simple addition will save them time and money along with less of a disturbance while service repairs are made in the future. This was a fun one 💪 Remove and replace 2 natural gas water heaters , gas repipe from the main back to the tanks , new copper water piping, complete repipe of the shut off valves and new venting as well. 👍 The customer stated that during the home inspection they noticed one of the water heaters was having a drafting issue. I instantly noticed that the original 3” venting going into the chimney was not only undersized and not up to date with modern plumbing codes but it was also incorrectly tied into the chimney liner inside of the chimney. We decided the best approach to solving any venting issues would be to completely do away with the existing 3” wye and run a common vent back to the boiler side of the chimney and tie into the boilers flue vent that is installed in a much better manner where it ties into the chimney liner. We did confirm that the 6” chimney liner can handle all of the appliances connected to it as well as check condition of said chimney liner. The surrounding area of the chimney where the existing vents tied into it were also old and flaking apart due to years of use and abuse. We broke off any lose material that we could and applied a new layer of furnace cement to both areas for not only a cleaner look but to also seal up the chimney and extend the life of it the best we could. As you can see , we aim for perfection on every job. Shower drain and p trap repair completed in Falmouth yesterday 💧 During the demo process we discovered there were two layers of ceiling and A LOT of debris left up there. Upon cutting the first hole I realized we needed to protect the kitchen properly before continuing demo to avoid creating an unnecessary mess. got the floors , ceilings and counters covered up and continued cutting. While replacing the shower drain I also replaced the existing p trap. P traps with clean outs can be known to leak and I made sure the customer understood that. @deltafaucet swap ! While there I noticed a condensate drain loosely dropped into the sink drain. If the sink ever clogged or the condensate line got bumped out of place this would have made a huge mess. I Installed a hose barb fitting and zip tied the condensate line to it to make a water tight seal that cannot be removed without effort. This will prevent any disruptions in the future. Service call to repair a leaking shower drain 🚿 Removed this custom p trap 😅 ( please do not glue 90s together to make a p trap ) and replaced it with an actual p trap designed for this purpose. I personally don’t like using the original type of shower drain unless needed especially on a second or third floor because its only sealed by the rubber gasket inside the drain which can be known to have issues as seen. Before -left after - right Came into this job today to correct a previous installation so that these homeowners can finally use their washing machine without worry. as seen in the before pic this drain pump was installed with a rubber boot style check valve. These are known to blow off of pvc piping from increased pressure while the unit pumps water up into the drain. I replaced it with a “ clear check “ glue style check valve. The joints are now glued with pvc glue and will never blow apart like the rubber ones can. If this check valve fails you can simply shut the valve off, loosen the unions and replace it with ease. The biggest problem with the original installation is that it was vented with an air admittance valve. Ejector pumps are not designed to work with these types of vents. I tied the vent into the future vent that was directly above the pump. A future vent was left here exactly for this purpose but was not used in the original installation. I also installed a shut off valve above the new check valve. There was no option to isolate the section I was working on so I had to remove it and quickly drain all of the water into a bucket which honestly made a mess. Thank god this wasnt a bathroom pump 😅. Just finished up this water service upgrade so that the home owner can rest assured knowing that one of the most important parts of their plumbing system is in working order , installed correctly and ready to use in case of an emergency. New shut off valve to shut the home down if needed along with a drain for ease of servicing. Sloppy video but we’re gonna post it anyways🤙🏻 My phone decided to not record the lead pour which would of been the best part of the video , instead you can watch me over heat that piece of sheet metal , then heat the lead on my driveway which I then decided to put it on a cast iron pan like I should of done in the beginning. it didn’t come out perfect but it got me through the job I needed it for. The last lead hammer I poured lasted over 5 years and would have continued but I wanted to repour it cus it was getting old. Here’s the finished product of a tankless @navieninc NCB250/150H combination boiler I recently installed for @thevallegroup 🔥 This boiler will supply the homes fixtures with instant and unlimited hot water for years to come. Many people get this mixed up so let me explain.. when people hear instant hot water they usually think it should be hot right when you turn on your shower or faucet. When you turn on your faucet you still need to move the Cold water that’s been sitting in those pipes before the new heated water from the boiler reaches the faucet. A good trick is to turn on the bathroom faucet to move that cold water out of the pipe quicker while waiting for your shower to reach the desired temperature. A tank water heater is literally just a tank filled with water and its job is to keep that whole tank of water warm. If you take multiple showers in a row and your tank water heater is undersized or not working properly you will run out of hot water for a bit until that water heater is able to bring that full tank of newly introduced cold water back up to temp. tankless units heat the water instantly as it’s introduced to the boiler eliminating the need to keep 40 gallons of water hot at all times. this is a more efficient install because it’s not constantly working to keep the water warm like a tank water heater that continuously heats the water even if you aren’t using any fixtures. The tankless unit will not kick on until it’s asked for heat.
